Philippe Starck

As a designer, Philippe Starck is anything but normal. As one of the premiere designers of the 21st century, Starck's work is seen in a lot of industries today and his unique designing style earns him a place as one of the potential designers of modern architecture and furniture design.

Starck's foray into the world of architectural design began when he studied in the Ecole Camondo in Paris. It is at this point in his life where he developed an interest on where and how people and the concept of materiality; early indications of the style he will develop later on his career.

In the Late 1980s, Starck was commissioned to design several establishments across France, Spain and Switzerland. In the same period, he also extended his interests into other fields like street furniture, industry, home renovations, clothing, accessories and design.

If there is one thing that Philippe Starck is known for today, it would be his concept of Democratic Design and Technology. His thinking is that quality design should not be restricted only for the 1%; it has to be experienced by everybody else. This utopian-like design mentality is clearly seen in his work which uses the cheapest of materials available and built to the highest possible standards.

Sometimes subversive yet always well-meaning, Philippe Starck has created countless furniture made in the Democratic design style. Collaborating with several modern designers, Starck always makes sure that his designs will become foundations for items that can be bought and used by the middle-class public in years to come.
